Yoga to Cool the Body

There are so many areas in life that yoga can help with and right now its beating the heat! Here are 4 poses that I like to do help keep my mind in the right place along with helping my body release heat.

Ps: things are always better with a cute puppy too.

Half Sun Salutation

Doing a full Sun Salutation is intended to create heat so here is a half version to help calm the mind and body without creating heat.

Start in Tadasana, inhale as you lift your arms up over your head pressing your palm together in prayer. Exhale as you draw your palm down through heart center while bending forward over your legs ending with your palms reaching towards the ground. Inhale as you lengthen your spine and lift halfway pressing your palms into your shins. Exhale, fold back down (forward fold). Inhale as your rise to stand with your hands over head landing with your palms pressed to gather in prayer overhead. Exhale as you draw your palm down thought heart center and bringing them next down to your side landing in Tadasana. Repeat 5 time.

Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana)

Anjaneysana is a great pose to help lengthen your muscles while opening your heart. This pose creates a place of surrender and peace at the same time. This pose is helpful with finding acceptance with the heat and where you are right now.

Begin from Down Dog. Inhale lift your Right foot up and back. Exhale and you bring your right foot underneath you landing with your Right foot between your palms. Inhale as you drop your left knee to your mat. Inhale and you bring both your palms to your right knee, stay here or sweep your palms up to the sky. Slide your shoulders down your back, relax your face and jaw, and gaze upward if that is comfortable for your neck. Stay here or begin to lift form your thoracic spine to find a mini back bend. Stay here for 5 full breath cycles. On an exhale bring your hands back down to frame your right foot. Inhale as you tuck your tones on your left foot and your lift your left knee off the mat and begin to lift your Right foot up and back. Exhale and your lower your right foot to meet your left ending in Down Dog. Repeat on with the left foot.

Tree Pose (Vrksasana)

Tree pose is an amazing pose to build confidence, release the mind, and strengthen the body.

Beginning in Tadasana. inhale shift your weight into your right foot exhale as you bring you hand to your wait. Inhale as you lift your left knee up 90 degrees. Exhale as you are externally rote your left knee to the left. Inhale as you place your left foot on your ankle, calf, or thigh and exhale (Never place your foot on your knee). Stay here or inhale life your arms toward to sky. Stay for 5 breath cycles. On an exhale unwind landing in Tadasana. Repeat on the left foot.

Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana)

Excessive heat in the body create stress, stress can create unnecessary tension. Boddha Konasana helps to release excess tension in the body thus allowing you to cool off more easily.

Start in a seated position. Inhale bend your knees and bring the sols of your feet to touch. Exhale as you bring the sole of your feet closer to your pubic bone or bring them farther out, which ever fells best for you. Inhale as you reach your hand toward your feet. Exhale as you hinge forward rounding your spine and reaching your heart toward your feet. Stay here for 10 to 15 breath cycles. On and inhale slowly begin to sit up.
